Safe and Effective Use of Self Restorative Retreat
October 3rd-6th, 2017
Take the time to nurture yourself to strengthen your clinical practice. This rich and highly experiential retreat, focusing on the safe and effective use of self, will include guided practices and self-reflections, art response pieces, and restorative yoga, meditation, and body movement practices to nourish your heart and calm your mind and body. Learn to connect with yourself at a deeper level and develop a variety of restorative tools to 'heal the helper' and prevent compassion fatigue. These practices re designed to help you safely become more embodied, attuned, and authentic. Participants will have access to some of the neurofeedback, biofeedback, and mindfulness tools used at ATTCH to enhance their experience.

Fostering Self-Compassion and Emotional Nurturence- Participants will learn about the benefits of self compassion and emotional nurturance and engage in a variety of experiential techniques to find what works for them. Daily self-reflection exercises will be provided to aid with implementing this practice.
Embodied Mindfulness Practice with Carol Cowan - Participants will engage in a daily mindfulness and yoga practice to allow for connection with self in a safe and embodied manner. Daily experiential exercises will be provided to aid with implementing this practice.
Restorative Yoga With Lisa Scandalori - Restorative yoga is a powerful approach for healing trauma and restoring empowerment to the body. In this workshop variations of postures using support to hold the body in position. Folded blankets, bolsters, straps are a few of the props used to support the body in asanas that create profound relaxation and restoration. Nurture yourself in these supported yoga postures.
Experiential Based Processing with Lori Gill - Participants will learn how to process through experiences or energy that may become stuck within them through use of art, externalizing activities, grounding techniques, and through resource development.
Resourcing Using Attachment Focused EMDR Techniques with Lori Gill - Participants will learn how to create resources and fully embody these integrating bilaterally for future use.
Yoga Tune Up Class with Nancy Drope - Yoga Tune Up is a Self-Care, Health Care practice for down regulation of the Nervous System. This 75 min. class will down regulate your nervous system from fight or flight to rest and restore using Yoga Tune Up Massage Therapy Balls, modified yoga poses and corrective exercise. No yoga experience or knowledge is required. This unique experience will expand your mind and relax your body!
Emotional Freedom Technique with Carol Cowan - Participants will learn about EFT and have an experiential for using EFT for stress reduction and emotional wellbeing. EFT is an emotional version of acupressure with infinite healing potential. We tap on certain energy meridian points with our fingertips while focusing on a negative emotion such as fear, anxiety, anger or frustration. Properly done, this can produce a calming effect,reducing the negative emotion and shifting to a positive state in a matter of minutes. EFT can be used to alleviate negative thought patterns or emotions as well as change beliefs and perceptions. Other uses include healing physical pain, past trauma, cravings, and weight loss. Learn this technique and feel the freedom it provides!
Introduction to Biofeedback, Neurofeedback, and Bilateral Stimulation Resources to Promote Healing of the Body, Brain, and Mind with Lori Gill and Carol Cowan - Participants will learn about biofeedback and neurofeedback tools such as the HeartMath Emwave Pro Program, MUSE brain sensing headband, Syxnctuition, and Mindwave Mobile's Neurosky Program. Demonstrations will be provided and participants will be given the opportunity to have their own neurofeedback and biofeedback sessions.
Aromatherapy for Emotional Regulation - Participants will learn about the benefits of essential oils for promoting emotional and psychological regulation and well-being. A mini aromatherapy massage will also be provided.
Workshops will end at 2:00 to allow for quite reflection and to allow participants full use of the amenities on property. White Oaks is a Four Diamond, Five Star property. About Our Facilitators:
Lori Gill is the founder and lead trauma therapist of the Attachment and Trauma Treatment Centre for Healing (ATTCH) www.attch.org. She is a Registered Psychotherapist (RP), Certified Trauma Specialist (CTS), Consultant Supervisor, and Trainer, for the National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children (TLC) and a former Psychology Professor. Lori maintains membership with the Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists (OACCPP) and has over 16 years of clinical experience working with children, youth, and adults. Lori has held positions various professional positions working with addictions, mental health, child welfare, access to services, school counselling, and eating disorders. Her breadth of clinical experience contributes to the trainings she provides that are rich with practical case examples. Lori is honoured to have received an Award of Excellence in 2014 for her contributions to the trauma field and to have been qualified as an expert witness in the fields of trauma, attachment, and reconciliation therapy. Lori is an engaging and sought after presenter who facilitates a variety of trainings and workshops across Canada and the United States.
Carol Prentice is a Registered Social Worker, Emotional Freedom Technique Practitioner and Trainer, Yoga Instructor and Reiki Practitioner. Carol is known for her exquisite blend of Western Psychology and Eastern Healing traditions as she guides each of her clients closer to experiencing profound peace in their lives.
Carol was certified as an E.F.T. Practitioner by the founder Gary Craig in 2008. Carol has witnessed profound healing using E.F.T. with clients that have experienced trauma, loss, emotional/physical/sexual abuse, accidents and addictions. With her knowledge and experience, Carol has published a book called “The Hidden Secrets of E.F.T.” which is available on www.amazon.com. Having always been drawn to study the mind/body/ spirit connection, Carol’s path led her to completing her Yoga teacher training. She has completed specific training in teaching Trauma Sensitive Yoga with Dr. Bessel van der Kolk. Carol has been teaching Hatha Yoga with devotion since 2006. Nancy Drope is a movement specialist who advocates for optimal wellness with her students and private clients. Her career in physical movement commenced with her degree in Physical and Health Education at the University of New Brunswick where she was a varsity athlete. Her passion for movement led her to yoga where she discovered the full circle she had been searching for, the connection of body, mind and spirit; with the expression of self through controlled movement and meditation had her hooked.
Certified in Hatha, Power Vinyasa, Yoga Tune Up® and Meditation, Yoga Nidra, Reiki Level 1. Nancy has become an advocate for “Life Practice”, and has fallen in love with leading people to respect and honour their mind and body through movement, mobility and meditation. Her contagious passion is rooted in her ageless attitude, living her own life with intention and self-compassion. The results allow people to live a life of less pain, improved posture and enhanced performance in simple everyday tasks, as well as their extra-curricular activities.

She is an avid cyclist, runner, recreational tri athlete, tennis player, and nature lover who's Mother Earth Soul currently leads specialized yoga classes in her home studio Ebb and Flow, in Queenston Ontario as well as, White Oaks Resort and Spa Niagara on the Lake, The Vintage Hotels Niagara on the Lake, and workshops at Power Yoga Canada St. Catharines. Lisa Devi Kirn is a 500 Hour Yoga teacher in Hatha and Kunalini Yoga traditions. Lisa Devi KIrn has studied with many top name international trainers and continues to deepen and expand her knowledge by taking courses each year in Canada and the United States.
Devi offers Kundalini classes in addition to her Hatha classes. She regularly holds Early Morning Sadhana’s, amazing gong meditations, women’s retreats internationally and has become the inspiration for many of her own students to become teachers themselves! Her warm, fun and inspiring classes aim to uplift and elevate. It is her desire that her students leave class with a stronger, more accepting and compassionate sense of themselves in an often changing and challenging world. She is a leader of the new generation of Kundalini Yoga teachers, dedicated to helping people uplift themselves through the powerful technology of Kundalini Yoga and the transformational process of creating teachers.
